Success at the Downham Cluster Tag Rugby

A combination of boys and girls from classes 4, 5 and 6 enjoyed success at the local Cluster Tournament held last Friday. Playing on a small and narrow pitch meant that we had to concentrate on running straight lines, as well as supporting our attacking players as soon as they made a break.  We won our pool rather easily to advance into the final by defeating Shouldham Sharks ( 1-0) and then drawing with Denver (1-1)

As the Tournament developed we began to adapt well to the conditions and led by Harry Lawrence, Luke Ridgewell, Joe Pennells, Gavin Rushing, James McKay-Ferguson, Esther Broad and Holly Bantoft scored a number of very well constructed tries. In the winners pool we defeated Shouldham Saints ( 4-1) to set up a final against our old rivals Hillcrest. We totally dominated this game but unfortunately lost concentration at vital moments. Running into touch twice and dropping the ball over the line did not help our cause. Hillcrest only entered our half once and scored because of poor tackling. However, finishing second overall sends us to the next round of competition at West Norfolk Rugby Club in November.
