Science Week 2015

Every so often we focus learning during one week on a particular curriculum area. This week we will be focussing on Science. We have concentrated on the fun aspects of science and planned a number of exciting opportunities for your children.

I thought it would be good to take this opportunity of giving you a brief description of some the events that will be taking place during the week.

Monday 27th April

Fens Falconry visit us for what promises to be a really exciting afternoon. They will be bringing a selection of birds of prey. During the afternoon session your child will have the opportunity to individually handle the birds and watch them fly. This will be closely supervised by the handlers who will accompany the display with an informative talk.

Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th April

Mrs Newman taught science in the school until recently. As well as teaching she also has a background in the science industry. Mrs Newman has planned some exciting activities and experiments for the children to take part in and will be leading this with the help of Mys Uys.

Thursday 30th April

A highlight of the week will be a return visit by Cool Science. Following on from their last visit where we were treated to displays of dry ice, rocket launches and exploding experiments, Cool Science are presenting a day of sound and light.

Friday 1st May

Animal Experience is a group based at The Raptor Foundation. They come highly recommended having appeared on Blue Peter, Animal Planet and Channel 4. They will be presenting a display of reptiles and meerkats.

I am excited about the opportunities and experiences we have planned for the children and I hope that parents will find time to talk to their child about what they have learnt during the week - Mrs Uys, Science Teacher
