Happy New Year 2016

Welcome back to everyone, and a Happy New Year for 2016.

The New Year is traditionally a time to endeavour to make changes for the better. The new term is a chance to come back to school refreshed and eager to make the most of the opportunities you will have both in, and out, of the classroom.

Whether you are an existing, prospective or former pupil or parent, we hope you’ve had a wonderful festive season; here’s a reminder of this term’s upcoming events.

Parents’ Evening

The Spring Term is ideal for consolidating learning from earlier in the academic year and preparing for the assessments and excitements in the summer. As such, Parents’ Evenings will take place this term – we hope to see as many parents as possible to discuss your children’s progress. Parents play a vital role in their children’s learning, and we are keen to foster the close ties we already share.

Cross-Country Challenge

Ryston Runners hold a Cross-Country “Grand Prix” consisting of six separate races every year. We are planning to enter pupils in both the Under 9s (800m) and Under 11s (2k) remaining three races this term. There are individual, series and school prizes up for grabs, and mementos for anyone taking place in at least three races. Let’s put on a good show and wish our runners the best of luck.

School Choir

The School Choir will be performing in a charity concert with St. Edmundsbury Male Voice Choir, this time with Laura Wright in aid of Nordoff Robbins (a national music therapy charity dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable children and adults across the UK).
Tickets are only available on-line from the venue: The Apex, Bury St. Edmunds. The concert is at 7.30pm on 20th February.

World Book Day

We will again be celebrating during the week of World Book Day (3rd March) with a day of themed fancy dress. In connection with this, as we have done for a number of years, a children’s author will be visiting the school to read to the children and sign copies of their books.

Open Evening

We will be holding an Open Evening on 10th March, from 4-6pm. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone wishing to visit the school, to look around and meet the teachers, please contact us for more information.

Science Week

After last year’s successful Science Week we are repeating the experiment! The week will be filled with interesting and slightly more unusual science for the children to enjoy. We will also have a number of visitors bringing their own special experiences. More details to follow nearer the time.
